Manhãs / Mornings

Quando estou acordada e bem-disposta, nada me sabe melhor que uma manhã de trabalho. A minha cabeça está descansada e trabalha melhor, e não há distracções como telefones a tocar ou recados a fazer. É óptimo!

When I'm actually awake and well humoured, nothing makes me feel more accomplished that a good working morning. My brain is rested and works better and there are no distractions like phones ringing or things to be done outside. It feels great!

Passei a manhã de hoje a acabar estes babetes (molde do "bend-the-rules sewing"), feitos a partir de camisas cá de casa que já estavam a ficar velhas.

I spent today's morning finishing up these bibs (pattern from "bend-the-rules sewing"), made from old shirts that were lying around the house.

Entretanto, no embrulho que recebi da Jennifer há uns dias vinha este vintage quilt. Achei que merecia tornar-se um quadro para a nossa casa nova.

Meanwhile, this vintage quilt was one of the goodies Jennifer sent me some days ago. It's so beautiful it deservers to be hanging (some day soon) on our new house's walls.

What a purl!

Toda a craftolândia fala nesta loja. Claro que, logo que ficou assente que passaríamos uns dias em NYC, a ideia de lá ir não me saía da cabeça. E valeu a pena a obsessão? Sim! Apesar de muito pequena, a Purl é extremamente acolhedora e está repleta de coisas muito, muito giras. Não há um único tecido feio, há uma variedade bastante boa de moldes e instrumentos para crafts e o ambiente é mesmo especial.

Everybody in craftland talks about this shop. As soon as we decided to spend some days in NYC, I couln't stop obsessing about going there -- and I must tell you I was not disappointed! Even though it's very small, Purl is extremely cosy and is full of very, very beautiful things. There isn't a single ugly fabric, there are loads of patterns and sewing supplies and the ambiance is really special.

E sim, comprei tecidos! Mas isso fica para amanhã...

And yes, I did buy fabrics! But I'll leave that for tomorrow...

Thrifting

Como metade desta viagem foi passada no campo, pude finalmente espreitar algumas das tão badaladas thrift shops e yard sales -- que pena enorme não as termos em Portugal. São sítios onde se podem comprar tantas coisas a preços ultra-acessíveis -- e que maneira bestial de reaproveitar "tralha" que para os seus donos já não tem interesse algum. (Só conheço uma loja deste género em Lisboa mas os preços são absurdos.)

As half of my trip was enjoyed in the countryside, I had a chance to finally visit some of the famous thrift shops and yard sales that every American crafter talks about! It's such a pity that we don't have places like these in Portugal -- places where you get to buy things at a great price -- things that are nothing but junk to their previous owners.

Eu estava obviamente interessada em objectos pequenos e portáteis: ou seja, materiais de costura. Aqui está o que comprei: bastidores (para fazer isto), tecidos, botões, um conjunto de fitas de gorgorão e carrinhos de linhas (alguns vintage, outros mais actuais).

I was obviously interested in all things small and portable, aka: sewing supplies. Here's what I bought: embroidery hoops (to make this), fabrics, some buttons, a set of grosgrain ribbons and thread bobbins (some vintage, other just used).

Lucky me!

Estou de volta! Que viagem fabulosa: deixou-me de barriga cheia! Nos próximos dias vou aqui mostrar o que a minha loucura consumista de tecidos e afins me fez trazer.

Entretanto, tinha em casa, à minha espera, um envelope cheio de presentes, vindos também dos EUA. Foram-me enviados pela generosa JC handmade, a propósito de um sorteio que ganhei há um mês nesse blog.

I'm back! What a fabulous trip! In the next days I'll show here what I've bought in the USA (a very dangerous country if you happen to be a fabric/sewing supplies mad consumer!).

When I got home I had this wonderful goodies package from the USA waiting for me! It was sent by the generous JC handmade as a prize for having won a small contest in her blog.

Viagem de balão / Hot air balloon trip

O tempo aperta e não dá para continuar a esconder: o tal projecto em que ando a trabalhar há um mês é um "obrigada" às minhas queridas Amigas que me levaram numa viagem de balão para me despedir do meu estado de solteira.

Fiz uma carteira à medida de cada uma delas.

Vou mostrá-las aqui à medida que as for oferecendo às minhas Amigas.

I can no longer hide it: that secret project in which I've been working for a month is a "thank you" to all my friends who took me on a hot air balloon trip, in order to say goodbye to my single life.

I made each one of them a bag.

I'll show you the bags as soon as I give them to each one of my friends.
