Sudbury Hall

Of all the National Trust houses we've visited so far, Sudbury Hall is my favourite. I find that it has a very human dimension and that makes me feel good. The thing that really fascinates me about these houses is that you can actually see, through all the furniture and fabrics, how each generation turned the place into their own home.

  2. Try Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire. It really shows the changing fortunes of a wealthy family. In fact the last occupier seemed to live in one leaky room!
    Its an English Heritage property.
Then you could nip over to Chatsworth in Derbyshire which is magnificent.
