50s Apron

I keep talking about clothes from past decades but never found the courage to sew from vintage patterns. Have you ever looked at a pattern prior to 1970? The illustrations are lovely but when you get to instructions... oh là là. Four steps only that end up taking 16 hours to complete. Two working days! To make an apron! You have to decipher the steps, oh yes, and they didn't take shortcuts back then. It was worth it though. I feel I actually learnt something and I got an unique apron!

Dress to Impress :: Winter II

Let's celebrate this cold wave that's sweeping across Europe (and that makes me wear gloves inside my flat) with more Winter dresses!

Vintage in Colour

Photography fascinates everyone: one single click captures a moment both in a person's life and in the history of mankind. I've been spending hours exploring the US Library of Congress' Flickr photostream. One of the collections that impresses me the most is called 1930s-40s in Color, perhaps because it's so unusual to see ordinary people's lives from that era photographed in colour. Here are some of my favourites.

Nicey Jane

I've spent a fantastic weekend by the coast of Alentejo with my great friend Mafalda. We looked at the sea, ate buttered toasts, walked amongst sheep and trees and laughed our hearts out whilst watching Jeeves and Wooster. I left my camera in Lisbon so I can't share much more with you. Now I do feel prepared for our next great adventure. We leave for England on January 5th!

Dress to Impress :: Winter I

Today's the perfect winter day: blue skies, very sunny and cold. Lately I've been wishing I had more winter dresses in my closet. It's so easy to find dresses in the summer but when the days get colder, it's a lot harder to buy decent ones. Do you agree?

Stylish Stylist :: Shana Faust

Tricot :: Knitting

Now that my hobby has turned into my job, I've found another interest: knitting. Under my mother's guidance I took a tea cosy pattern and made a neck warmer for me. I must prepare myself for English weather, right? By concidence, I used two skeins of pure British wool (Freedom turquoise mix by Twilleys of Stamford) which I bought here.
