Natal Cor-de-Rosa :: Pink Christmas

Although we've been having a rather schizophrenic spring (25ºC one day, 15ºC the next... sometimes it's hot and humid, other times it's cold and windy... no wonder Rodrigo got a cold), I've decided that I must embrace this non-wintery Christmas. I've got to leave the northern hemisphere symbology behind and come up with new references. This Christmas is going to be what our Easter couldn't be: a festivity in ice-cream colours. I want pink, turquoise, mint green and lemon yellow!

The other day I noticed a few bottlebrush shrubs on a road verge not far from here. The thing that struck me was their colour: light pink and hot pink! I've seen lots of bottlebrush shrubs in Portugal but they were always red. They're native to Australia, not NZ, but you see them a lot around here. When I saw them I immediately thought they'd make a great Christmas wreath so a few days later I went back there with my trusty pair of secateurs and clipped a few branches.

These wreaths are very easy to make and have a great impact: you just attach the branches to a metal circle using a piece of wire or twine, making sure that they're all pointing in the same direction.

Natural wreaths keep for quite a while in cold climates (the ones I made in England went on for weeks on end). This one will dry out quickly but that's fine because I already have an idea for the next one!
