Introducing... Blanc by Saídos da Concha

Um dos aspectos mais positivos de ter um blog é, de vez em quando, receber algumas propostas e desafios. Há uns tempos a Sofia do Hotspot -- o blog da equipa de casamentos BrancoPrata -- sugeriu-me fazer uns cake toppers; na impossibilidade de fazer uns mais giros do que estes, propus antes experimentar fazer umas almofadas para alianças. E assim surgiu a minha nova linha: Blanc by Saídos da Concha, que até já tem direito à sua própria loja Etsy.

One of the most positive aspects of writing a blog is that, from time to time, people come to you with proposals and challenges. Some time ago Sofia from Hotspot -- the blog from the wedding team BrancoPrata -- asked me to make cake toppers; unable to make toppers cuter than these ones, I suggested some ring bearer pillows instead. And that's how my new line came up: it's called Blanc by Saídos da Concha and it even has its own Etsy shop.

As almofadas são feitas à mão por mim, têm aproximadamente 11 x 11 cm e seguram as alianças através de um botão e de uma fita de cetim. Comecei por fazer oito... vamos ver como corre!

The ring pillows are handmade by me, mesure approx. 11 x 11 cm (4.5'') and hold the wedding rings with a button and a piece of slim satin ribbon. I started by making eight... let's see how it goes!

Sunday Stash :: #8

Que me interesso por decoração de interiores já não é novidade. Passo muito tempo a ver revistas e blogs sobre o assunto, bem como a recortar e organizar as minhas imagens preferidas. No outro dia ocorreu-me que posso recriar o esquema cromático de um ambiente recorrendo ao meu armário de tecidos. O sunday stash de hoje é precisamente esse exercício: a partir de uma página do último catálogo Toast escolhi três tecidos:

:: o amarelo faz parte da colecção Katie Jump Rope da Denyse Schmidt;
:: o azul é um resto de fazenda que comprei a metade do preço e que um dia (num futuro distante?) espero transformar numa peça de roupa para mim;
:: o cinzento é metade de uma capa de almofada do IKEA.

The fact that I'm interested in interior décor is not new. I spend a lot of time looking at magazines and blogs on the subject, as well as cutting and organising my favourite pictures and magazine tear outs. Some time ago it occurred to me that I can recreate a room's colour scheme through my fabric stash. Today's sunday stash is precisely that kind of exercise: starting from a page from the last Toast catalogue I picked three prints:
:: the yellow print is part of Denyse Schmidt's Katie Jump Rope collection;
:: the blue print is a piece of wool that I bought half price hoping that someday (in a distance future?) I'll use to make a piece of clothing for me;
:: the grey print is one side of an IKEA pillow.

Por casa :: At home

Nuvens, humidade, luz cinzenta. Dias que pedem bons almoços e sobremesas ainda melhores. A nossa sobremesa de hoje esteve congelada durante um ano, dois meses e vinte e um dias... sim, hoje comemos os últimos bolos do nosso casamento.

Clouds, humidity, greyness. Days that call for good lunches and even better deserts. Today's pudding had been frozen for one year, two months and twenty-one days... yes, today we finished our wedding cakes.

Pão feito em casa :: Homemade bread

Voltei a fazer pão em casa. Repeti esta receita, mas desta vez segui o exemplo da Erin e misturei uma parte de farinha integral para duas partes de farinha branca. Ficou óptimo!

I made bread again. Based on this recipe, I follow Erin's example and mixed up this batch with 1 cup whole wheat flour and 2 cups all purpose flour. It turned out great!

La tartine gourmande

Qual é a reacção normal de uma pessoa ao folhear livros de cozinha? A minha mãe, por exemplo, fica imediatamente saciada; eu, pelo contrário, sou acometida por uma vontade incontrolável de atacar um pacote de bolachas. Ou seja, ver fotografias e ler descrições de boa comida (no meu caso, sou especialmente sensível a sobremesas) dá-me fome! Muita fome!

What's your reaction when you spend some time looking at cooking books? My mother says she immediately loses her apetite; I, on the contrary, feel the urge to devour a whole packet of cookies. In other words, looking at great photos and reading descriptions of good food (I am especially sensitive to deserts) makes me hungry! Very hungry!

Conhecem o trabalho da Béatrice Peltre? Se calhar sou a última pessoa a descobrir o blog desta francesa que vive nos EUA... Esta senhora é fotógrafa e stylist de comida e, cereja em cima do bolo!, cozinha ela própria aquilo que fotografa. E dá-nos as receitas!

NYC in a Lisbon kitchen

No domingo passado fiz bagels, aqueles pãezinhos nova-iorquinos por excelência. Comidos com queijo creme e salmão fumado, fizeram-me lembrar... Nova Iorque, claro! A receita é daqui.

Last Sunday I made bagels, those little new yorker rolls. With cream cheese and smoked salmon, they reminded me of... New York, of course! The recipe is from this book.

I ♥ handmade!

O facto de eu não tricotar não significa que não adore coisas tricotadas à mão. Este Natal recebi várias da minha mãe (a meu pedido), entre as quais se contam estas luvas. São ultra-elaboradas e deram muito trabalho, mas o esforço valeu a pena (para mim é fácil falar porque não passei horas a fazê-las). Tenho-as usado todos os dias!

The fact that I don't knit doesn't mean I don't love handknitted things. This Christmas I was lucky enough to receive many handknitted items made by my mum, one of those things being these gloves. They are very elaborate and took much time to make but I think they are totally worth the effort (it's easy for me because I didn't spend hours making them). I've been wearing them every day since I got them!

Passámos o domingo a passear por Alfama e aproveitei para tirar fotografias aos novos organizadores de carteira. Estes dois estão reservados mas espero fazer mais esta semana e pô-los aqui.

We spent Sunday strolling the streets of Alfama (a very old Lisbon neighbourhood) and I took some pictures of the new purse organisers. These two are reserved but I hope to make some more this week and list them here.

The (hand)making of a bag

Às vezes, à noite, quando estou a trabalhar no meu atelier (que é como quem diz o "quarto dos fundos", simultaneamente casa de jantar, escritório e quarto de costura), o Tiago vem tirar fotografias. Sinto sempre que estamos a preparar um making of de um filme.

Sometimes, at night, when I'm working in my studio (which is really the 'back room' that triples as sewing room, dining room and office), Tiago comes in and takes lots of pictures. I always feel we're documenting the making of a film.
