Yesterday the postman brought me two boxes filled with baby hand-knits: one was sent by my mother, the other one by my mother-in-law. I've gradually been washing and organising both the clothes and the nursery, always feeling so lucky that we're being given so much that's either inherited, borrowed, bought or especially made for this baby. Amongst mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunts and friends, it's lovely to feel that, although far away, I'm surrounded by so much help and affection.
(in the pictures you can see: 1- all hand-knits, except for the tartan blanket, which was my mother's and uncles' when they were babies; 2- borrowed baby shirts; 3- a baby dress that used to be mine; 4- 1950s shirts that dressed my mother when she was a baby; 5- muslin squares my mother embroidered when I was still inside her belly; 6- the quilt I made for the baby's cot)
